چکیده

Besides the finite element method, the massspring discrete modeling is widely used in computer graphics. This discrete model allows to perform very easily interactive deformations and to handle quite complex interactions with only a few equations. Thus, it is perfectly adapted to generate visually correct animations. However, a drawback of this simple formulation is the relative difficulty to control efficiently physically realistic behaviors. Indeed, none of the existing models has succeeded to deal satisfyingly with this. Moreover, we demonstrate that the mostly cited technique in the literature, proposed by Van Gelder, is far to be exact in most real cases and its interest is limited to some specific non realistic animations. Here, we propose a new general 2D formulation that reconstructs the geometrical model as an assembly of elementary ”bricks”. Each brick (or element) is then transformed into a mass-spring system, in which edges are springs connecting masses placed on the element vertices. The key point of our approach is the determination of the stiffness constant of each spring to reproduce the correct mechanical properties (Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and shear modulus) of the reconstructed object. We validate our methodology with the help of some numerical experimentation of mechanics, like stretching, shearing and loading and then we evaluate the accuracy limits of our approach.

Analytical Spring-Mass Model of Impact Behavior of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

In this study, an impact behavior of spherical striker on a double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) is presented based on a three degree of freedom spring-mass model and the finite element (FE) simulations. The semi-analytical solution of the transverse impact of a striker on a DWCNT is investigated by using the elasticity nonlocal theory of Euler-Bernoulli (EBT) and Timoshenko (TBT) nanobeams. T...

Evolutionary identification of cloth animation models

This paper presents an application of evolutionary genetic techniques to the identification of internal parameters of a mass-spring physically-based animation model. A physical model of fabrics is first presented. It uses a mass-spring mesh and an inverse dynamics procedure in order to model the non-linear elasticity of fabrics. A method to identify the internal parameters of the model from geo...

Large Amplitude Vibration Analysis of Graphene Sheets as Resonant Mass Sensors Using Mixed Pseudo-Spectral and Integral Quadrature Methods

The present paper investigates the potential application of graphene sheets with attached nanoparticles as resonant sensors by introducing a nonlocal shear deformation plate model. To take into account an elastic connection between the nanoplate and the attached nanoparticle, the nanoparticle is considered as a mass-spring system. Then, a combination of pseudo-spectral and integral quadrature m...

The Effects of the Moving Load and the Attached Mass-Spring-Damper System Interactions on the Dynamic Responses of the Composite Plates: An Analytical Approach

In the current study, the effects of interactions of the moving loads and the attached mass-spring-damper systems of the composite plates on the resulting dynamic responses are investigated comprehensively, for the first time, using the classical plate theory. The solution of the coupled governing system of equations is accomplished through tracing the spatial variations using a Navier-type sol...

Determination of elasticity parameters in lumped element (mass-spring) models of deformable objects

Lumped element models, also known as, mass-spring-damper models, are widely used to simulate deformable objects because of their simplicity and computational efficiency. However, the parameters of lumped element models are typically determined in an ad hoc fashion through trial-and-error, as these models are not directly based on continuum mechanics of deformable objects. In this paper, an alte...
